Toral: The best is yet to come By Janette Toral Digital Filipino
New medical transcription firm. The other day, I got a call from Victor Perez, chief executive officer (CEO) of MedTransOnline.com. We talked about the full launch of his medical transcription business.
Victor used to be an information technology (IT) specialist and consultant to the United Nations Development Pro-gramme in Bhutan and South Asia. In his international stints, he can’t help but think of opportunities where he can impart his skills and expertise. He eventually put up his business in Los Baños, Laguna, touted to be the science and nature city of the Philippines.
At this point, his company has a roster of 10 medical transcriptionists and editors capable of rendering a minimum of 600 lines per day or about 114,000 lines per month on a 24-hour/six-day shift (Mondays to Saturdays).
It is great to hear updates about new business investment from peers who were formerly based overseas and have decided to settle here for good. May entrepreneurs like Victor be successful so they don’t have to migrate or work overseas for better opportunities.
International Schools Cyberfair 2006. Congratulations to the University of the Philippines Cebu for bagging the gold in the International Schools Cyberfair historical landmarks category with its entry “Calles de Cebu: Gateways to a Nation’s History” (http://streets.philippines-online.com/) and the Center for International Education for bagging the silver in the local music and art category with “Cebu: A Self-Portrait” (http://cyberfair.cie.edu). Four other schools also bag awards in the competition: De La Salle Zobel School (http://www.sirpats.com/sao/), De LaSalle-Araneta University (http://www.salikneta.bravehost.com/project/home.html), Antique National School (http://ans-online.ph.tc/2006), and St. Joseph Academy (St. Joseph’s Academy (http://www.csj89.com/laspinas/splash.htm).
With more schools developing parallel Filipino version of their websites and winning the International Schools Cyberfair, I’m inspired to work harder in making Cyberfair 2007 better. I dream that one day all elementary and high schools will join the annual Philippine Schools Cyberfair (http://www.cyberfair.ph). It is a vision worth working hard for.
FEEDBACK. My column last week elicited feedback and insights from Bob Martin (http://mindanao.com/blog/?p=1119) and Jason Banico (http://www.funchain.com/post/0000002643) through their respective blogs. It would be great if Sun.Star news and columns posted online will have trackback to blogs and see if there are readers who have reacted to them.
With the emergence of new media, I use my columns as an accompanying reference in my podcast (http://digitalfilipino.podomatic.com). It is interesting to see how the combination of various media is providing greater content value to the subject being discussed.
Two days ago, I activated my subscription to YouTube.com as well (http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=digitalfilipino) and uploaded a discussion lecture. In the future, I believe that all sites will need a combination of text, audio, and video to provide a full experience to its reader.
I also consider that there are niche markets for audio listeners and video watchers who prefer such media over traditional text content.
The Internet is becoming more exciting with the integration of different media that are now accessible to more people than before. With Internet Protocol Version 6 becoming available to the mainstream soon, the best is yet to come.
