Cebuano water firm obtains bigger cut of Manila market

Cebu-grown Mactan Rock Industries Inc., (MRII) a water technology solutions provider, is now serving the water needs of 10 more companies in Metro Manila and other parts of the country.

These companies include Waterfront Davao, Westin Philippine Plaza Hotel, Manila Pavilion Hotel, International Port in Manila, Kraft Foods, City State Building in Mandaluyong and De Los Santos Hospital in Quezon City.

Capacity

“I’m happy to say that these Manila-based firms are now availing (themselves of) the services of a Cebu-based company rather than patronizing imported and expensive water technology processes,” MRII president and chief executive officer Antonio Tompar said.

“We are increasing our capacity to provide these companies about 6,000 cubic meters water a day,” he added.

Already, MRII has been providing water technology solutions to over 350 industrial firms around the country. It is the first company in Asia that introduced desalination, a process that involves converting seawater to potable water.

In Cebu, aside from private companies, MRII also sells water to the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD).

Aside from the current volume it sells to MCWD daily, MRII has proposed to supply MCWD an additional 45,000 cubic meters a month from surface water sources in Cebu City.

“If we are able to help companies provide technology solutions for their water requirement, we are more than willing to help the water supply problem in Cebu,” Tompar said.

He said MRII can tap water from rivers in Ba-rangays Bulacao, Bonbon, Pulang-bato, Jaclupan and Cotcot the company will be able to provide immediate solution to the long standing water supply problem in Cebu. (JBN)
