Speak out: Macias should resign By Sam Costanilla Consultant on Media Affairs Province of Cebu
House committee on local government chair Emilio Macias is a square peg in a round hole. The way he is handling the Sugbuak issue makes him unfit for the chairmanship of the House committee on good government.
Former UP president Francisco Nemenzo is right in stating that Macias' actions are “trapo” attitudes that bring the country down.
And this leads us to ask: why is Macias afraid of holding a Sugbuak hearing in Cebu? Does he think the Tagalogs are interested in listening to the Sugbuak bills if he holds public hearings in Manila?
Right from the start, Macias has been showing his bias for the Sugbuak proponents. He cannot deny it.
As chair of the House committee on local government, he is supposed to hear both sides in instances when arguments on the proposal are presented before him.
As it is, Macias is proving to one and all that he is incapable of treating the Sugbuak controversy fairly and well.
The best way to redeem his image is to resign as chair of the House committee on local government right now.
