Alcantara councilor kills man, killed by victim’s brod
A barangay councilor was killed last Sunday after he allegedly shot dead the brother of a man he had argued with the night before in Alcantara town.
In Consolacion town, the woman who was shot dead by her husband last Saturday was identified as a stepsister of Ruben Ecleo Jr., a former mayor in Mindanao who is facing a parricide case in Cebu.
After shooting his wife Marilyn Ecleo de la Serna, 31, Antonio Quiapo de la Serna, 36 shot himself in the mouth.
Police found the couple dead inside their rented house in Barangay Cansaga. Jealousy reportedly drove Antonio to kill his wife.
Last Sunday, Carmelo “Nilo” Orbita, 39 died on the spot after a rock was bashed on his head Sunday morning in Barangay Cabadiangan, Alcantara town.
This was after Orbita allegedly shot Roel Saordido Tabañag, 34.
Police learned that after seeing Roel get shot in the stomach, his brother Gomer chased Orbita and bashed a rock on his head.
The night before, Gomer and Orbita had an argument in the middle of a drinking spree.
To avoid trouble, Gomer decided to go home.
Orbita though wanted to finish his argument with Gomer and followed him to his house.
Because Gomer did not want a confrontation while Orbita was drunk, he decided not to face Orbita.
It was Gomer’s mother who went to the door.
SPO2 Jesus Ascencion said Orbita, in a drunken fit, allegedly hit Gomer’s mother with a piece of firewood.
The next day, Orbita was not satisfied and returned to see Gomer.
Seeing that Orbita had not sobered up, Gomer continued to avoid him and hid.
This piqued Orbita, who returned home and brought back a .38 revolver.
This time, it was Roel who faced him.
Roel reportedly asked Orbita if he was willing to settle the differences with Gomer the night before.
Gomer was shocked when Orbita allegedly pointed the gun at Roel and then fired twice.
Roel suffered one gunshot wound in the stomach and slumped to the ground.
Angry, Gomer ran after Orbita.
Orbita aimed the gun at him, but it did not fire.
This gave Gomer an opportunity to beat Orbita up with a stick.
The two continued at this until they were 200 meters away from Roel’s body.
Just then, Orbita lost his balance and fell to the ground.
Gomer then picked up a rock nearby and bashed his head.
Gomer fled, but surrendered yesterday morning to Senior Insp. Ranulfo Lastimoso, Alcantara Police Chief, after negotiation with Gomer’s family.
Ascencion said Orbita, a barangay councilor of Salagmaya, Alcantara, was a good man, but acted differently when he got drunk.
Orbita’s family has requested the National Bureau of Investigation to perform an autopsy on Orbita.
His body was brought to the St. Peter Funeral Homes in Barangay Tunga, Moalboal. (MEA)
