MLKP Cebu five dumps Toledo, into MVBA Finals
The M. Lhuillier Kwarta Padala-Cebu Jewelers crushed the Toledo-Cebu Landmasters, 81-58, in Game 3 to win the Visayas Finals two games to one in the Mindanao-Visayas Basketball Association (MVBA) Sunday evening at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Jewelers will host the first two games of the best-of-five MVBA Finals against the Mindanao Division champion PacMan-GenSan.
After allowing Toledo to lead, 19-18, at the end of a close first quarter, the Jewelers unleashed its might in the last five minutes of the second quarter with center Alano Caputolan scoring eight straight points that had M. Lhuillier taking a 37-29 lead after a 29-all deadlock.
No momentum change
Although the Landmasters scored seven points against five by the Jewelers to come closer after the first half, 36-42, the momentum of the game failed to switch as Woodrow Enriquez and Jayford Rodriguez combined for 14 points to start the third canto and go way ahead, 65-49.
Mike Manigo and Ariel Mepaña ignited a 13-2 run to start the fourth quarter as of Cebu City-based squad to its biggest lead, 78-51, in the final two minutes.
The Landmasters played nowhere near the excellence in Game 1 when they shocked the erstwhile undefeated Jewelers, 89-83.
Manigo topped all scorers with 19 points, while Caputolan and Mepaña added 12 points each. Visayas Division MVP Rodriguez finished with 11 for M. Lhuillier, while Carlos Sayon Jr. was the only Toledo player who scored in double digits with 15.
Revenge
Today, the Jewelers seek to avenge their defeat at the hands of PacMan-GenSan, who beat them in the MVBA pre-season game last December.
The MVBA is made possible by ML Kwarta Padala, Cokaliong Shipping Lines, Nature’s Spring Drinking Water, Gameface.ph, Panasonic, Molten and Sulpicio Lines.
