Talk back: Pissed doctor
By Diana S. Villono

(This letter is addressed to Melanie T. Lim)

I would like to share with you my experience with a doctor here in Cebu who is also the coordinator of numerous health insurance providers.

I called her clinic early this week asking for her schedule. Her secretary told me that her clinic schedule was from Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. I scheduled for an appointment on the same day and she told me that I was No. 5 on the list.

I was at the clinic at 1:30 p.m. and was informed that the doctor was not in yet. I waited outside since there were no seats left inside.

I read the doctor's door signage and saw that her schedule was for 3 p.m. I asked her secretary about it and she said that it was an old sign. She told me that the doctor would be in any minute.

So I waited and waited and waited. The doctor finally arrived at 3:30 p.m. She looked pissed that her patients were already grumpy.

She didn't start entertaining her patients until 30 minutes after. Then it took her 30 minutes per patient. At around 4:45 p.m., she stepped out of her clinic and went to another hospital. She still looked pissed.

The least she could do was look apologetic for her tardiness. One patient even said that she has done that same "stunt" more than three times already.

The doctor only made my migraine worse. I had to leave the clinic before I could say or do anything I would regret.

I know that she is a doctor and that what she is doing is very important. But she has no right to treat her patients that way. It was very unprofessional.

Had I known that that was the kind of doctor that she was, I wouldn't have wasted my time there.
