27 cops get values training

Twenty-seven policemen in Central Visayas yesterday graduated from a month-long PNP values and leadership training course held in Barangay Gaas, Balamban, Cebu.

The course was initiated for the police to look deeply into themselves, assess their performances, and renew and enrich their faith in God.

The programs and modules, designed by the PNP-Values Leadership School (PNP-VLS) in Cebu, and several church-based organizations, dwell on teambuilding, getting to know oneself, striving to become a better person and serving the community.

Supt. Rex Urbano, one of the training officers, said the program focused on ethics and values that included becoming God-centered people.

Dedicated

PO1s Abraham de Jesus Jr. and Allan Macatangay, who shared their experiences in the training, said they have learned to value their lives more and become more dedicated to their jobs.

Both policemen, though, admitted they initially hesitated from participating on impression that the training catered to misbehaving policemen.

“(I asked myself) Why me? But, it (training) proved me wrong,” Macatangay said.

Chief Supt. Samson R. Tucay, PNP-VLS officer-in-charge, told reporters yesterday the program was formulated in 2004 by former PNP director General Edgardo Aglipay, originally for scalawag policemen to give them the chance to reform.

Positive outcome

Recognizing the positive outcome of the program, Aglipay and Chief Supt. Arturo Lomibao, who took over Aglipay’s post, continued with the project, this time, making it as a formation program for all policemen.

In Central Visayas, yesterday’s graduates, who called themselves as “Christian Police Officers,” were the third batch to finish the program.

Deputy Regional Director for Administration Ronald Roderos, in his inspirational speech, told the graduates that being models of their colleagues, they should serve as frontliners in shying away from corruption. (JST)
