Dutch chessers to play vs. USC online
The mayor and officials of Haarlemmermeer in The Netherlands will meet with officials and coaches of the University of San Carlos (USC) today to discuss ways to help the university’s various projects, including its sports program.
“They are here to provide possible assistance to the sports program of the university, which is in consonance with the sister-cities partnership,” said Nimfa M. Alo, head of the USC Student Affairs Services.
Haarlemmermeer, through its former mayor Ad van Dulst and Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña, forged a “Letter of Intent to Establish a Sisterhood Relationship between Cebu City and Haarlemmermeer,” a 14-year partnership contract.
The meeting will also tackle the possible match between the top chess players of Haarlemmermeer and the USC chess team, which is led by Kim Steven Yap, who recently tied for first place in the Boys 18-Under of the National Age-Group Chess Championships in Mandaluyong City.
“It will be played through the Internet but we still have to know the technicalities of the match,” Alo told Sun.Star Cebu. JAF
