First worldwide commemoration of Philippine Independence Day happens on ABS-CBN and TFC

A historic telecast unfolds this June 12 as ABS-CBN and ABS-CBN Global enjoin every Filipino, wherever they may be in the world, to sing the national anthem together and celebrate the Philippine Independence Day as one—a first in local TV viewing experience.

Throughout the day, Filipinos will witness the raising of their flag in various cities across the world over ABS-CBN Channel 2 and ABS-CBN Global’s The Filipino Channel (TFC), a 24-hour cable and satellite service available around the globe. Each flag ceremony (in Manila, Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York, Milan, Dubai, London, Sydney, Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, and other key cities worldwide) will be led by prominent figures like Manny Pacquiao, the Philippine Mt. Everest Expedition team, Filipino Ambassadors and Consuls, and other Filipino achievers.

ABS-CBN taps its global reach to bridge the gap among these regions, aiming to unify various Filipino communities on Independence Day. “Every year, each Filipino community all over the world celebrates the event, without knowing that their kababayans in other regions do the same thing,” says Cecile Ilagan, ABS-CBN Global’s head for Philippine Marketing. “The network believes that it’s about time to unify these regional celebrations by giving them a global perspective.”

Through this global celebration, which will also air over the network’s other channels, ABS-CBN aims to instill a sense of national pride among all Filipinos—born in the Philippines or not, Tagalog-speaking or otherwise.

Kaya’t iangat ang pagka-Pinoy, iwagayway ang bandila, saan ka man sa mundo.
