Ouano says he is target, 7 nabbed
Mandaue City Ouano yesterday revealed he is among the targets of 80 terrorists who are now reportedly in Cebu.
Ouano, in his speech during the Independence Day celebration at the City Hall grounds, said that seven of these 80 terrorists have already been arrested.
The mayor said his son-in-law, Nixon “Jojo” Dizon, received a call from the intelligence group last Saturday and told him about the presence of these terrorists.
The caller advised Dizon to “beef up” his father-in-law’s security because the mayor is one of the terrorists’ targets.
Ouano directed Mandaue City Police Chief Eduardo Catabas to strengthen their intelligence network.
He told reporters that the terrorists are allegedly after the supporters of President Arroyo, including him.
The mayor declined to give more information about the seven arrested or offered more details about the terrorist threat.
Catabas, for his part, said he will validate these reports and update the mayor on it.
He told Ouano yesterday that Regional Intelligence and Investigation Division Chief Augusto Marquez had earlier reported to the Regional Peace and Order Council about the presence of hit squads in Cebu.
Catabas said he even received frequent reports that the two Mandaue-Mactan bridges will be bombed.
That is why starting last May, he assigned a 24-hour security on the two facilities, including the areas below these.
Catabas also informed the mayor that around 160 police recruits from other Visayas regions who are undergoing field training program are expected to be deployed in Mandaue to augment the city’s police force.
Last Thursday, Police Regional Office 7 Chief Silverio Alarcio informed Ouano about the plan to set up an advance command post (ACP), near the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC) for the duration of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit in December.
It will serve as a central communications center for security, intelligence and operations during the summit activities.
Ouano suggested that the police use the city-owned showroom inside the CICC compound as site for the ACP. (ROV)
