Ace at the hills
By Mike T. Limpag
Sun.Star Staff Reporter

Rolando Alberto and Noel Abad may have retained their lead in Class A of The View Invitational golf tournament at the rolling hills of Alta Vista Golf and Country Club yesterday, but Alejandro Dayot III made the biggest news of the day after scoring an ace at the par-3 13th hole.

Dayot, who has been golfing for eight years, used a five-iron Callaway X-14 and a Callaway ball to ace the 155-yard hole, his second ace in two years after earning his first during a leisure round at the Mactan Coral Golf and Country Club.

For his feat, Dayot will take home a Yamaha Golf Cart from Kart Plaza, a Norkis-Yamaha motorcycle, round trip tickets, P100,000 cash from CICI General Insurance and P20,000 cash from Aviva. If there are other lucky golfers who will score an ace, the prizes will be divided accordingly.

His first ace in a tournament also came without the hoopla as the flight ahead of him “conspired” to keep the feat a secret.

“Wa man ni-react ang mga tawo nga nag-una, nagsabot diay nga i-surprisa (They wanted to surprise me),” said Dayot, who was with partner Euro delos Reyes, Charles Uy Kim and Bonna Muntia.

Dayot finished with 35 points, while delos Reyes finished with 29 to tally 64.

In Class A, Alberto and Noel Abad stayed on top of the leader board with their 80 points on opening day. The event goes into its final day today.

Organizers were still collating the second-day results at press time.

Alberto had 38, while Abad scored 42 as the duo became the only team to top the 80-point bracket so far.

Taking the second spot in their group are Poch Lamug and Leonardo Teng, who had 38 and 39, respectively, to finish with 77.

It was the same story in Class B as Henry Chu and Edu Larrazabal retained the top spot with 78 points, five points clear of second-placers Benedict Chua and Mitchel Dy. Chu had the best round in all divisions with a 46, while Larrazabal had 32.

In Class C, Hansel and Elpidio Ong took the top spot with 74. Hansel had a quite 33 points, while Elpidio added 44.
