Ask Homer
MIAMI – Rodrigo Jueves (rodrigojueves@gmail.com) leads the cast of several readers who now have resurfaced their doubts on the Dallas Mavericks’ toughness: “Shaq delivered his promise of a ‘monster’ Game 4. But to me, Dallas is just showing their real color as ‘paper tigers.’ Are they?”
I wouldn’t go as far as calling the Mavs paper tigers. That label had since been peeled off by coach Avery Johnson, who is known as the Little General for his defense-demanding ways.
And while the Mavs did look soft as Kleenex tissues in Game 4, it wasn’t like they reverted back to their old form. They simply got caught flat flooted by Miami’s rough, physical play, which began at the 11:46 mark of the first quarter when Shaq nailed a driving Dirk Nowitzki to the ground.
2) Noel Canete (bisdak004@yahoo.com): “It’s now down to a best-of-three and I think Miami will have the bragging rights for this season. My guess is that it will be the Heat, 4-3, because Dwayne Wade will play 400 percent even with all the injuries, especially that time with Shaq (350lbs) fell on him. Do you agree?”
If the Heat win Game 5, which is a very big if, I’m inclined to believe that they’ll eventually win the Larry O’Brien trophy. But if the Mavs steal Game 5, then I can’t see how Miami can win both Games 6 and 7 on the road.
3) Roger Saliga (rpsoliga1@yahoo.com): “Wade has been spectacular in Games 3 and 4, but since the 2-3-2 NBA Finals format was introduced 25 years ago, only the 2004 Pistons have won all the three home middle games. What are the chances of Miami duplicating the feat?”
The odds are huge, about 70 percent. Momentum, as Heat coach Pat Riley once said, is a beautiful thing.
4) Nacky Asher (nackyasher@hotmail.com): “After 10 years of playing basketball, why hasn’t Shaq solved his free-throw shooting problem?” This is Shaq’s 14th year in the league, not 10. But anyway, I have no clue about Shaq’s free-throw woes. What I do know is that he’s trying so hard to improve his percentage at the 15-foot line. Sadly, the improvements are not quite good enough.
