Li, Dihausan grab Women’s Doubles title after tiebreak

The tandem of Sharmane Li and Janeel Dihausan prevailed in a triple-tie situation to rule the Class D Women’s Doubles category of the 3rd Thirsty Badminton Cup yesterday at Metrosports.

Li and Dihausan have a 2-1 win-loss card along with the pair of JV Tan and Janeanine Entote and the duo of Michelle Castro and Richelle Tiny in the single round-robin format.

Li and Dihausan had the highest winning margin after the point system tiebreaker was applied.

Tan and Entote landed at second place, while Castro and Tiny settled for third.

Camille Luisia and Sweet Jumawan, on the other hand, can afford a loss in their last game as they are the virtual champions of Class C Women’s Doubles.

They have a 3-0 win-loss slate, while Ethel Choachuy and Charlene Yang are at second place with a 3-1 card.

Winner-over-the-other rule

Luisia and Jumawan will still triumph due to the winner-over-the-other tiebreak rule even if they lose in the last round.

In Class E Women’s Doubles, Alice Ty and Susan Tanilon swept all their four outings in the tournament to grab the champion’s cup.

Anpoy Mangubat and Pauline Hofer are at second place with a 3-1 record.

In Bracket A of Class C Men’s Doubles, Felix Tan and Abbey Espanol are in the lead with a clean 3-0 slate. Stephen Briones and Chris Catelo are currently at second with 2-0.

Erwin Arquillano and Roger Sameon, on the other hand, lead Bracket B with 4-0, while Jedd Durano and Joseph Tanco are at second with 3-1.

In Class D, Roy Bachinela and Donnel Toledo took command in Bracket A with a 4-0 record. Partners Jigs Ty and Eding Ong and the pair of Jerome Capoda and Francis Manalili lead Bracket B and C, respectively, with identical 3-0 marks.

In Class E, John Gawchua and Butch Cipres are ahead in the first bracket with 2-0, while Mat Mancera and Al Callet lead the second bracket. (JAF)
