100-bed spa opens, owner sees more room in industry

ONE of the pioneers in the spa industry opened last Sunday a multi-million peso spa located on a 1.5-hectare property in Barangay Banilad, near Maria Luisa Estate Park.

Johnny Siao of Spa Banilad Corp. said The Spa at Cebu offers various spa services and has more than 100 beds, which makes it the biggest spa facility in Cebu in terms of accommodation.

Some of the big spas in Cebu are Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort’s Chi Village, Badian Spa, Plantation Bay’s Mogambo
Springs and The Spa at Cebu Hilton Resort.

“Massage will never go out of style as long as it is offered with high standard services,” Siao said in an interview.

“It can be Cebu’s strongest niche to attract tourists,” he added.

Investment

Siao said that while there are over 200 spa outlets in Cebu, there is still room for more players.

He added that he has decided to invest heavily in the business because of the increasing demand for the service.

Cebu, through the Spa and Wellness Association of Cebu (SWAC), is trying to uplift the wellness industry’s image, which has been smeared by speculations that some establishments are mere fronts for prostitution.

Siao, who is also the executive director of SWAC, said he is advocating for the “cleansing” of the industry’s image. (JBN)
