CCCI to hold ICT congress, job fair

Aside from updating stakeholders on recent trends in the information and communication technology (ICT) industry, this year’s ICT Congress will also include a job fair.

According to ICT Congress chairperson Melanie Ng, ICT, business process outsourcing companies and call centers will post their available openings online.

About 50 computers with Internet connections will be made available during the fair for job seekers to access.

Ng said the ICT Jobs and Livelihood Fair, which is part of the three-day InTourpreneur 2006 event, is undertaken and co-presented by the Presidential Office on Jobs Creation, Jobstreet.com and Business Processing Association of the Philippines.

Opportunities

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) has worked with government and academic institutions to inform the public about leading opportunities in ICT.

The chamber is also coordinating with the Personnel Management Association of the Philippines Cebu and the Philippine Society for Training and Development to provide free sessions to job seekers on career planning, interview and resumé building.

The ICT Congress, together with the Tourism Congress, Health and Wellness Congress and the Franchising Conference, will kick-off tomorrow at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

These four events, happening simultaneously, are part of the “InTourPreneur Conference,” the highlight of this year’s Cebu Business Month (CBM).

The three-day business conference will focus on promoting ICT, tourism and entrepreneurship as Cebu’s competitive thrust in developing the economy.

On the first day, a main plenary will be conducted in which top government officials and businessmen discuss the the growth of ICT, tourism, entrepreneurship and franchising and the opportunities in Cebu, according to a statement from CCCI.

On the second and third day, the delegates may choose which conference to participate in.

CBM 2006 chairman Wilson Ng said CCCI is expecting more than 1,000 delegates to participate in the entire conference.

“The delegates have a number of choices depending on their interest,” he said.

Aside from the job fair, other side events of the ICT Congress are the ICT quiz bowl and the web awards. (JBN)
