Larios’ ‘risky route’
Mexican slugger Oscar “Chololo” Larios seeks to make it big in the star-studded super-featherweight division but the former world junior featherweight champion is going through a risky route – Manny Pacquiao.
Everybody knows Larios is overreaching but just like Pacquiao, whose tickets to fame and fortune were Marco Antonio Barrera, Erik Morales and Manuel Marquez, Larios’ future in boxing is on July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum.
Although Larios offers a good blend of skill and power plus a two-inch height advantage over Pacquiao, he was not tested in the super-featherweight division.
Unlike Pacquiao, who is proven in the division after he demolished Morales in the second of their two meetings, Larios’ closest fight in the 130-pound limit was at 125lb when he beat Ivan Alvarez by decision in 2004.
The hometown factor might not affect Larios, who is “comfortable” fighting in hostile territory. He is also called the “Road Warrior.” (RCM)
