Cebu towns show off festivals, attractions today

It will be a “showdown” of colors and dance steps from 44 of Cebu’s 52 localities in today’s opening of Intourpreneur at the Waterfront Hotel, a three-day activity that is part of Cebu Business Month.

Choreographer Junjet Primor said the opening ceremony will showcase the best of Cebu’s talents, arts and culture and other things that give pride to each locality.

The local government units have prepared grand exhibits of products and destinations that will give the public a feel of how it is like to tour around Cebu, all in one hotel.

“This is the first time that the towns and cities in Cebu will be the star of the exhibit,” Primor told reporters.

“It will be a grand show in (this morning’s) opening salvo,” he said.

There will be a parade of 24 festival queens. Costumes and distinctive steps from local festivals of eight municipalities are highlighted this morning, while the rest of the towns will have a non-stop, 30-minute presentation each from 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The eight festivals in the morning are the Palawod from Bantayan, Dinagat from Cordova, Caballo (Compostela), Haladaya (Daanbantayan), Sinanggiyaw (Dumanjug), Tostado (Santander), Mantawi (Mandaue City) and the Sinulog sa Sugbo, considered the mother of all festivals.

Cebu’s old traditional practices and cultural activities will also be given life with the Balitaw singers from Moalboal and Alegria’s Kumparza, which tells a story through songs and body movement.

The island’s rich history will also be seen from different exhibits, as well as products localities are known for such as the lechon of Talisay and chicharon of Carcar.

The municipalities received financial assistance from the Provincial Government for the activity.

Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia said it is time that the towns are given a chance and venue to show themselves off. (JPM)
