Magsaysay: Touring keys By Jo Magsaysay Whatever
Breakfast with Ingrid at the Marriott was as fulfilling for the spirit as it was for the body. This marvelous lady, Ingrid Sala Santamaria, of course, whose music captivated millions of people in America, Asia and the Philippines, was here for a breather. But, in a heartbeat, she rushed off again to her 12th Romantic Piano Concerto with her iconic maestro, Reynaldo G. Reyes.
******
Her consuming passion for music has so inflamed Ingrid, the casual listener to her performance at the piano and her informative little talks about music, catches her fire and becomes enveloped in an ardent appreciation of music.
The ponderous, profound and somber mood of old classical masters, take a backseat in this 12th Concert Tour when Ingrid’s romantic sensibilities strike a resonant chord in her selection of the sparkling lyricism and sentimental nuances of composers of the romantic period, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky (my favorites) among them. The popular Mayon Fantasy of Filipino composer Buencamino and Souvenir de Filipinas by Santiago are included in the program.

Cebuanos who love Ingrid and are rightfully proud of her accomplishments, both as pianist and music educator, will be delighted to know her Concert Tour, which started last July 15th, will stop over in Cebu for four days. Theresians, in particular, will open wide their arms and hearts to Ingrid on the 29th of July when she performs at the STAA Homecoming and Reunion.
Argao next on sked on the 30th, at the Asilo dela Milagrosa on the 31st and on August 1st at the Sacred Heart School Jesuit in the morning and in the afternoon the Sacred Heart School Hijas de Jesus. Criss-crossing through the Philippines with a side trip to Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, the Musical Journey ends in August 10th in Batangas.

The Marriott breakfast buffet was devastatingly calorific, so a helpful Sharon volunteered to pick out my cautious selection of eggs benedict, rashes of crisp fried bacon, a fluffy omelet. Good! However, Ingrid, who has kept her shipshape figure since her no-carbo diet of a couple of years was actually smacking her lips as she helped herself (with huge gusto yet!) demolish a second (?) helping of pancakes lathered with thick cream and peaches smothered with blueberry yoghurt. Noting my salivating hound-dog look, Ingrid, this gorgeous temptress, promptly stood up and fetched me a similar plate of pancakes…"I made little holes in them to absorb all the syrup and cream", she smiled wickedly. So, who’s to say no? "A mystical experience," the Portuguese called it!

The photos speak out loud for themselves and the accompanying write-up is much too good to chop up so I’m turning over the rest of my column space to Maricel Borromeo-Amores in a way of interacting with the Interact Club of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit.

The multi-awarded Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, headed by Mike Veloso, recently sponsored self-motivated, energetic and Christ-centered students of Sacred Heart School-Jesuit from Interact Club.
Heading this active group is, no surprise to those who saw him and his older brother, Ernesto Miguel, get awarded for Community Service some two years ago. Carlos Alfonso Borromeo-Amores, is the youngest President in all Interact Clubs being only 13 years old and a consistent honor student. He is backed up with the full support of his mother, Maricel Borromeo-Amores, who serves as the Director-Adviser for Interact on behalf of Rotary Club Cebu Fuente aside from being the Site HR-Manager of Etelcare Global Solutions, Inc.
The brainchild of getting these students together came from the vibrant Past President of Rotary-Fuente, Mary Ann Solomon whose son, Miguel Antonio, is also the Secretary of Interact Club too. The other officers are: Paolo Pioquinto, Vice-President, Aljun Acha – PRO and Amai Ong Vaño, Treasurer.
The Interact Members are a supportive and cooperative bunch as well: Joachim Espina, son of Rotary Governor 3860 nominee, Yumi Espina, Travin Dy, Rafael Nazareno, Marvin Morales, Alphonso Floro, Anton Urgello, Mark Bullo, Mark Cubillos, Lorenzo Co, Jon Michael Co, Roland Patalinhig, Marc Ng. John Caryll Simbajon, and Kevin Lim. Danny Madrazo, Asst. Principal of Sacred Heart acts as the adviser with the assistance of Guidance Counselor Lalaine Pioquinto.
They were formally inducted into office by no less than Rotary Club 3860 Governor Evelyn Magno. The group assisted cancer-stricken and autistic children and bonded together to solicit donations for the Leyte victims.
Sacred Heart School-Jesuit, known for imbibing "men for others" in the hearts of their students, recognized these selfless efforts and Fr. Ernesto Javier, S.J. and H.S. Principal Fr. Eric Velandria accorded the Interact Club with an Award for Community Service.
It is heartwarming to see the young actively participate and give their time to worthwhile endeavors. It is envisioned that these fine young students will consistently be role models in the community for the youth to emulate.
