Beermen even series with RB 1-all

San Miguel Beer routed the Red Bull Barakos, 114-98, yesterday to even their best-of-seven semifinal match-up at a win apiece.

The Barakos led, 44-41, with six minutes left to play in the second quarter but San Miguel’s Danny Ildefonso sank a triple for a 44-all deadlock. The first half closed with the Beermen ahead, 57-51.

Barakos center Enrico Villanueva was benched most of the second half and did not contribute much in scoring same as teammate Rich Alvarez.

Don-don Hontiveros fired 26 points including 6-of-6 from the 3-point arc and was named Best Player of the Game. He punctuated his performance by hitting a 3-pointer and converted an interception into a lay-up with three minutes remaining. Danny Siegle added 20 points for San Miguel.

The Alaska Aces and Purefoods Giants were still playing at press time.
