Granada, Deen, Mabatid bag top honors in BIG event
When Maning Granada, Eric Deen and Lino Mabatid walked off the green yesterday, they were grinning from ear to ear.
The three golfers bagged the top individual awards in the Business in Golf Tournament at the Cebu Country Club with Deen adding a special award to his booty.
Deen was gross champion in the two-day tournament with 38 points and, together with Jojo Tiongco, also received a special award for the most number of birdies. Deen and Tiongco sank four birdies each in the 18-hole event.
Granada scored 41 points to bag the Golfer of the Year award, which was given to the top scorer among members of the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mabatid was net points champion with 46 points.
Team competition
In the team event, Prince Warehouse survived the second-day attack with its lead intact to take first place with 156 points. Blake Go led with 43 points while Jonji Chiongbian and Tiongko added 36 each. Marc Gonzales posted 33.
Fast Cargo took the second spot with 153 led by Moises Soriaga and Granada’s 42 and 41 points, respectively. Other members were Gilbert Cabatana, who contributed 36 points, and Raul Manato, with 34.
Bad Boys 1 was third a mere point behind the second placers. Erenseto Siguan had 45 points, Joy Siguan and Wendell Yap had 36 each, and Gina Yap had a 35.
The other special prizes went to Kent dela Calzada, Wendell Yap, Olin Seno and Gassy Lizares, who copped the nearest to the pin awards for the par-3 holes. Dela Calzada’s approach on hole No.3 got within 18 inches of the mark, Yap was 41 inches off the fifth hole, Seno was 40 inches away from the 13th hole and Lizares was 39 inches short of the 15th hole.
Raul Encarnacion’s drive on the 11th landed six inches from the line and was adjudged the most accurate drive.
Chiongbian had the most number of pars with 14, while Marc Gonzales had the longest drive on hole No.8. (ML)
