Lera dela Calzada was crowned the country’s sprint princess after ruling Girls 18-Under 100-meter dash yesterday in the National Open Track and Field Championships in Palayan City, Nueva Ecija.
The sprinter from the University of Cebu (UC) clocked 13.25 seconds to win the gold medal. Dela Calzada also won a silver medal in the 200m sprint after she finished it in 27.64 seconds.
Anthony Santillan also won silver for Cebu in the Boys 18-Under 200m with a time of 23.67 seconds. Santillan also won the bronze in 100m dash with a time of 11.712 seconds.
Palarong Pambansa 400m hurdles record holder Jorge Pinanonang, an incoming Criminology student of UC, won silver medals in the 400m run, which he finished in 50.54 seconds, and the 400 hurdles with a time of 55.93 seconds.
Pinanonang, Santillan, Anselmo Esgana and Kenn Werner Villaruel grabbed another silver for Cebu after finishing second in the Boys 4x100m relay.
Bronze medals
Annabelle Nuñez, Jerlyn Toling and Christy Sevilleno also contributed medals to the team.
Nuñez won a bronze in the Girls 400m dash with a time of 1:00.93, while Toling placed third in the Girls shot put with a throw of 8.85 meters.
Sevilleno grabbed bronze medals in the Women’s 5,000m, 3,000m and 1,500m runs.
