Cordova warns v. cybersex
By Aledel Gonzalez-Cuizon
Sun.Star Staff Reporter

Even before authorities raided “cybersex” dens in Lapu-Lapu City and Minglanilla town early this month, cases of women posing nude before web cameras in exchange for money were already rampant in Barangay Ibabao, Cordova town, Cebu.

Girls 16 to 17, women “of questionable character” and even wives who got the consent of their husbands reportedly posed nude and performed “indecent acts” in front of web cameras in some houses in the barangay.

Ibabao Barangay Captain Teodoro Capangpangan learned about this last month from constituents and neighbors.

Quoting one report, Capangpangan said a husband and wife even had sex in front of a web camera.

The reports have prompted the Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) of Cordova to express its stand against these activities, through a resolution.

Residents wash their hands

Approved en masse, the PPC resolution said the parish cannot condone these activities, which destroy values.

Capangpangan told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that he has met at least 21 barangay residents who have computers at home to ask them about the reported indecent acts performed in their houses.

They denied it but Capangpangan is not convinced.

He noted that a family who is not financially well off has four computers at home.

Capangpangan has already reported this to the authorities and since some policemen visited the barangay a few weeks ago, some residents have reportedly sold their computers.

However, there are some who are still at it.

PPC president and former Cordova mayor Celedonio Sitoy told Sun.Star Cebu in a separate interview that the resolution is also asking the local government unit to take action.

After the PPC passed the resolution, he immediately informed Mayor Arleigh Sitoy, his nephew, about it.

Celedonio admits that taking action against this kind of activity will take time because they will need help from other agencies.
It also involves private residences, some of which are surrounded by high fences.

Celedonio is concerned about this issue, saying it will destroy the image of the municipality.

Last June 8, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group 7 raided an apartment in Lapu-Lapu City that was allegedly operating as a cybersex den.

Before that, a 44-year-old woman was caught forcing six girls, including her daughter, to pose nude in front of a web camera in her house in Minglanilla town. (AAG)
