Amonsot may not fight on July 2
BOHOL’S Czar Amonsot may not get to fight underneath the WBC International super-featherweight match between Manny Pacquiao and Mexican Oscar Larios on July 2 at the Araneta Coliseum as Mexican Sergio Ortiz pulled out of the fight after learning he would be fighting Amonsot.
Ortiz said he is not yet ready to fight a southpaw like Amonsot. The Mexican slugger prefers an orthodox boxer like Randy Suico, who was originally paired with Ortiz.
Amonsot, who has been tapped to fight Ortiz after Suico pulled out due to his coming WBA lightweight championship match, still has a slim hope of seeing action in the much-awaited showdown between Filipino and Mexican boxers under Manny Pacquiao Promotions.
“I really want Amonsot to fight, that is why I am trying to pull some strings to find a worthy Mexican opponent for Amonsot,” said boxing impresario Rex “Wakee” Salud yesterday.
But ALA Boys ALA Boys Antonio Aldeguer said it might cost the promoters extra money.
“Why not? It’s an opportunity for Czar to be seen in action. But it might cost them extra money, since it is very hard to look for a worthy opponent,” said Aldeguer.
“There is still a 50-50 chance for Amonsot to appear in the card and I am crossing my fingers that I could seal the deal tomorrow (today),” Salud said. (RCM)
