3 injured cops get medals from PRO 7 chief

The two wounded Cri-minal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 operatives were given medals despite observations that they may have committed lapses while conducting a buy-bust in Liloan, Cebu last Tuesday dawn.

Police Regional Director Silverio Alarcio Jr., together with Regional Personnel and Human Resources Development Division Chief Alex Castro and Police Community Relations Chief Alexander Abadinas, awarded the Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting to SPO3 Reynaldo Matillano and PO2 David Enterina at the Chong Hua Hospital yesterday morning.

Alarcio also gave P5,000 each to the policemen to initially cover their hospital expenses.

For getting wounded in the line of duty, PO3 Allan Magalso was also award-ed with a Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting. He was shot last Tuesday night in Labangon, Cebu City.

Alarcio reminded all the policemen that in their future operations, they should “conduct a study on your targets para hindi tayo maisahan.”

During the awarding of the medals, Alarcio ordered Enterina and Matillano to get the suspect and put him in jail.

Abadinas told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that Matillano and Enterina were given the medals because they were wounded in the line of duty.

As to the lapses they may have committed on the preparation and implementation of the operation, Abadinas said this will be reviewed by the CIDG 7.

Chief Insp. Fermin Armendarez, the designated leader of the five-man team who tried to bust suspected drug pushers Dante “Dansoy” Jalang and Jayve Miag-ao, said the operation was well-planned.

However, Armendarez admitted they discounted the possibility that Miag-ao could be armed.

“In the first place it was an illegal drug operation. But it was a lesson learned for us to be extra careful in the future,” he said.

Matillano and Enterina were wounded in the stomach and left hip, respectively, after Miag-ao shot them even before the drug deal was carried out.

Miag-ao, who is said to be a member of the Tau Gamma Phi fraternity, managed to escape after the incident, while Jalang was arrested in a follow-up operation.

Jalang had a .38 revolver and drug sniffing paraphernalia.

Armendarez said they are preparing for the filing frustrated charges against Miag-ao. (JST)
