Drilon, Flavier, Estrada log perfect attendance
Senate President Franklin Drilon and Sens. Juan Flavier and Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada attended all of the sessions and were never late during the second regular session of the 13th Congress.
But among the three, only Drilon and Estrada attended all the sessions starting July 25, 2005 to June 8, 2006, a summary of the attendance of senators issued by the Senate secretary showed.
Work-related
Flavier made seven official trips abroad, skipping the session seven times, but he was still considered perfect in attendance since his trips were all work-related.
In the first regular session of the 13th Congress beginning July 26, 2004 to June 8, 2005, Drilon, Estrada and Flavier also had perfect attendance and were never tardy. Flavier had two official foreign trips.
There were 90 sessions during the second regular session of the 13th Congress but there were no roll calls made in session 53 and 63.
Sens. Joker Arroyo, Juan Ponce Enrile, Richard Gordon and Francis Pangilinan also got perfect attendance but they were listed as tardy at one time or another. Arroyo and Pangilinan both had one, Enrile had nine, while Gordon had 24 late arrivals.
Late
The summary of attendance also showed that Sens. Miriam Defensor Santiago and Manuel Roxas had no absence but they were out of the session hall 14 and three times, respectively, for being sick. Santiago also had three late arrivals while Roxas had 13.
Sens. Sergio Osmeña III and Manuel Villar Jr. had the most late attendance at 27 followed by Sen. Ma. Ana Consuelo “Jamby” Madrigal with 25 and Richard Gordon with 24. Sen. Rodolfo Biazon was late 17 times.
Sen. Ramon Magsaysay Jr., who recently had a successful prostate cancer surgery, topped the list of absentees with nine.
He had to skip sessions at least 24 times for being sick.
He was followed by Cayetano with eight absences and Angara with seven absences. Sen. Manuel “Lito” Lapid followed them with five absences.
Among the 23 senators, Edgardo Angara had the most number of official trips abroad at 19, followed by Ralph Recto with 18 and Lapid with 15. (Sunnex)
