Go leads San Jose to Copa de Golf title

Blake Go tallied 40 points to tow San Jose Bakeshop to a five-point win in the Casino Español 6th Copa de Golf Tournament at the Cebu Country Club yesterday.

San Jose finished with 113 points in the 18-hole contest to edge out Metroland Holdings by five.

Over sixty teams joined the one-day contest, with the organizers having to request for additional slots from CCC.

Unique event

The organizers, who originally requested for only 50 slots, faced a deluge of entries after offering three holes in all the Par 3s, increasing the participants chances of a hole-in-one.

Marc Gonzales added 37 points for the champions, while Mark Dy had 36. Jojo Tiongko had 28 points for San Jose but his score was not counted as only the top three scores per team were totaled in the event backed by Globe Platinum and Rajah Park Hotel.

Meanwhile, Maxci Borromeo scored 38 points to bag the Golfer of the Year title. Only members of Casino Español are eligible to win the award.

Enrico Solon also scored 38 points for the second placers, while teammates Victor Gocela and Dennis Canoy added 36 and 34 points, respectively.

Their fourth member, Lino Dagus, finished with 31 points.

On the other hand, Mactan Memorial had to wait for the countback to win third place over Asturias Farm, after both teams tallied identical rounds of 107.

Mactan Memorial was led by Cesar Salimbangon, who had 37, while Benhur and Freddie Salimbangon chipped in 36 and 34 points, respectively.

Asturias Farm was led by Toto Parco and Maning Granada, who recently won the Business in Golf’s Golfer of The Year title.

Parco had 39 and Granada had 37 but they were dragged down after Raul Mabanto finished with 31. Their fourth member, Henry Uy managed 25. (ML)
