CEC a no-show at screening

The screening for basketball team line-ups in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. last Saturday at the Cebu Coliseum came without a hitch – almost.

Cebu Eastern College was a no-show as it failed to comply with the deadline given by Cesafi for the submission of the line-ups.

However, officials are CEC a final chance to submit its line-up until July 13 – the deadline set for teams to submit all the necessary documents.

Requirements

Secretariat chief Bernard Ricablanca said the comebacking CEC needs to submit all the requirements because they will not be given another day to complete it.

Meanwhile, Cesafi already named their tournament directors for this school year.

Since Department of Education’s Dr. Danny Villadolid has been tasked to be the deputy commissioner for all auxiliary events, he will have to let go of athletics this year. Taking over Villadolid’s post is Victor Yntig, who is also from DepEd.

Philippine Sports Commission’s Lerma Aguilon will be in charge of badminton, while the Cebu Volleyball Association will take care of volleyball. Team Cebu City-Taekwondo patron Rene Brojan will call the shots for taekwondo, while Cebu Football Association president Jonathan Maximo will take care of football.

TCC table tennis will have Jessica Jawad Honoridez.

Other tournament directors are Marvin Ruelan for chess, Vic Cuenco for dancesport, Gil Ramas for swimming, Fritz Tabura for lawn tennis and Merlie Concepcion for sepak takraw.

Experience

Cesafi had wanted to tap people not connected with the schools but it failed to get the nod of some prospective candidates, forcing it to get those who have had experience in organizing events in their own fields.

The other deputy commissioners are Danny Duran and Julian Macoy for basketball and Dolly Suzara for Cultural Events.

The Cesafi opens on June 22 at the Cebu Coliseum with Philippine Sports Commission chairman William “Butch” Ramirez as special guest. (MCB)
