Main-event pair face off today in Scoop forum By Jaime Frias II Sun.star correspondent
Vicente “Badong” Valdueza of Yaw-Yan Pasay and Adamson “The Assasin” Torbiso will face off today at the Sportswriters Columnists Organization of the Philippines forum hosted by Scoop-Cebu perpetual president Bobby “Knight” Inferio at Baseline Sports and Restaurant.
Valdueza and Torbiso will fight in the kickboxing main event of Saturday’s “Ground and Pound 1” kickboxing and mixed martial arts competition at the Cebu Coliseum.
Valdueza, who had fought in the pioneering MMA tournament Universal Reality Combat Championships in Manila, arrived in Cebu yesterday and trained at the Yaw-Yan Ardigma Gym of tournament organizer Benigno “Ekin” Caniga Jr. before resting.
Dante Lendio, Valdueza’s long-time mentor, has taken care of Valdueza’s training and conditioning.
The Yaw-Yan Pasay fighter and Torbiso, both 25-years-old, are eager to size up each other prior to their 135-pound encounter.
“Actually we are eager to see Badong’s opponent. We haven’t seen him yet,” Torbiso’s manager Jhoi Cuaton told Sun.Star Cebu.
“Adamson is a noted Cebu kickboxer with an impressive record,” said Lendio. “We have to exercise caution.”
Fighters in the undercard will also guest in today’s Scoop forum, among them Benigno Johnlery “Ian” Caniga of Yaw-Yan Ardigma, who will go up against Ronald “Ruby” Alinsug of Angel Technique Club in the children’s MMA exhibition.
Meanwhile, fighters from Wushu Sanshou of Cagayan de Oro City and Muay Thai Association of the Philippines of Dumaguete City will arrive on Friday.
