Pregnant woman suffered from stroke: autopsy

The autopsy done on the 27-year-old pregnant woman who died inside the maternity hospital found that she had “cerebrovascular accident.”

PNP 7 medico-legal officer Benjamin Lara, who performed the autopsy on Jaqueline T. Jabonero, explained that this is similar to stroke or aneurism in the brain.

“Ito ‘yong sinasabi sa atin na may pumutok na ugat sa utak,” she told Sun.Star Cebu.

Jabonero died last Tuesday night inside the delivery room of Cebu Puericulture and Maternity House Inc. She hailed from Sitio Ponce, Barangay Capitol Site, Cebu City.

Her baby girl also died inside her womb.

Jabonero’s parents, Jun and Lydia, vowed to file a criminal complaint against the hospital and the attending physician.

Lydia said they will file the complaint after the burial, tentatively scheduled on July 16.

Dr. Raida Varona, the hospital medical director, said in an earlier interview over TV-Patrol Cebu that Jabonero was properly attended to.

Lara was requested to perform the autopsy by the family and upon the recommendation of the Cebu City Police Homicide Section.

The Homicide Section is doing the investigation on the incident. Probers had said they found no external physical injuries on the patient.

The baby, on the other hand, had a cord coil. This, Lara said, could cause death because the umbilical cord could strangle the child and cut the blood supply to the baby’s brain.

Lara, however, declined to discuss further his findings. (JST)
