56 PBA hopefuls beat deadline for rookie draft
FROM the 56 players who beat the deadline for the PBA Annual Draft application, 10 of them were given the biggest chances of coming out as top picks of the coming season.
The 10 players include RP team members Arwind Santos, Joseph Yeo and LA Tenorio, Filipino-Americans Joe Devance, Rob Reyes and Kelly Williams, and collegiate standouts Boyet Bautista, Gabby Espinas, Mark Isip and Junjun Cabatu.
The 6-foot-4 forward Santos is a two-time UAAP most valuable player (MVPand also adjudged MVP in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL) where he led Magnolia to two championships. Santos is also a member of the national team that will compete in the Jones Cup in Taipei.

Cabatu, Enrile and Reyes are likely to be stricken out of the list because Welcoat Paints may automatically elevate them to the pro ranks once it joins the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) this coming season.
Williams, DeVance and Reyes are also not that certain to be included in the final list of draftees, as they have yet to complete their documentary requirements. They have until the end of the month to do so.
The 2006 draft is set on Aug. 20 at the Market! Market! in Taguig, Metro Manila.
Also included in the 56 are former Cebu-based cagers John Paul Alcaraz, Chico Lanete, Alfie Grijaldo and Dennis Daa, as well as NCAA MVP winner Jay Sagad and PBL and collegiate standouts Magnum Membrere, Christian Luanzon, RJ Rizada, Robert Sanz, Mark Andaya, Jonathan Aldave, Aaron Aban, Frederick Feliciano, Jerome Paterno, Erwin Sta. Maria, Mark Magsumbol, Al Vergara, Jay-R Reyes, Donald Dulay and Ronjay Enrile. (JSV With PBA Media Bureau)
