Former PB member Monteclar dies of multiple organ failure
Lawyer Crisologo Monteclar, a former member of the Cebu Provincial Board (PB), died Sunday afternoon. He was 78.
His second cousin, Rey Monteclar, said the two-term legislator died of multiple organ failure at the Perpetual Succour Hospital in Cebu City last July 10.
Monteclar slipped into a coma at the hospital’s intensive care unit last Wednesday.
Monteclar, who hailed from Daanbantayan town and served the Capitol during the time of former governor Lito Osmeña, was also suffering from diabetes.
His body is now at the Rolling Hills Memorial Chapel.
Monteclar is survived by his wife Irene and their six children, including lawyer Alex Monteclar, dean of the University of San Carlos College of Law, and Dr. Alan Monteclar, chief of pediatrics of the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center.
On mass motion by PB members during yesterday’s regular session, they requested that Monteclar’s body be brought to the Cebu Provincial Legislative Building this Friday night for necrological services.
Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez Jr. will deliver the eulogy, being Monteclar’s colleague at the board during Osmeña’s time as governor.
Great leader
Daanbantayan Mayor Ma. Luisa Loot said her town mourns the loss of a great leader, who was also known as the godfather of Malapascua Island.
As board member, Loot said, Monteclar saw to the island’s growth, such as the construction of church and schools among others, which made the residents look up to him as their leader.
In the mainland, Loot said Monteclar initiated the creation of the Tapilon Waterworks System and a similar water system in Barangay Calape.
Loot also considers Monteclar her political mentor, having been the one who prodded her to serve as OIC councilor during the time of president Corazon Aquino, and urged her to run for vice mayor.
He will be buried at the Cebu Memorial Park this Saturday, after a requiem mass at the Our Lady of Guadalupe de Cebu Parish. (JPM/JST)
