Father’s Day cookout at resort
SHANGRI-LA’s Mactan Island Resort and Spa held the first annual Father’s Day cookout last June 18 at the Cowrie Cove.
The event was participated by 10 children of different ages but all with the same level of youthful enthusiasm.
The day started off with the children getting dressed up in complete chef’s uniforms, with a chef’s hat and an apron.
With the guidance of Italian chef Marco Anzani, the children were led through the resort grounds to the fancy kitchen of the Cowrie Cove.
At the podium, executive chef Trevor Stevens laid down the house rules and the program for the workshop, and pretty soon, the children were sticking their latex glove-laden hands in tuna and chocolate.
The menu included tossed tuna and potato salad for appetizers, steamed salmon fillet with tomato salsa for the main course and a fruit tart for dessert.
Chef Trevor also led the children into a dessert-making game, allowing them to “design” their own dessert from fruits and chocolate. The winning concoction went to the Chocolate-Coated Eiffel Fruit Tower, supervised by sous chef Stephen Teo.
The event ended with the children dining exclusively with their delighted fathers, making it the perfect ending to the Father’s Day celebration.
