Police team shoots ‘thief’ in escape try
A FLEEING suspected thief was shot and wounded yesterday dawn by a responding operative of the Mobile Patrol Group (MPG) after he refused to surrender and reportedly tried to fight back using a fan knife.
Noel Baclayon, 25, of Villagonzalo II, Barangay Tejero, Cebu City was taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound in the left leg.
PO2 Junicar Esteñoso, one of the responding MPG policemen shot Baclayon after the latter allegedly tried to fight back when caught after a brief chase.
Baclayon was reportedly with four other men, who just preyed on Joven’s Beauty Parlor on Manalili St., Barangay Sto. Niño and took the salon’s air-conditioning unit.
Acting on a tip from a jeepney driver about an incident downtown at 1:15 a.m., the MPG proceeded to the site and spotted the suspects who quickly ran to different directions.
First to be arrested was Tirso Oliveros, 25, also of Villagonzalo II.
The two other suspects later identified as Jerry Pangan and one “Alias Negro” managed to flee from the area.
Three other people were rounded up but were later released after Baclayon and Oliveros cleared them and said they were not their cohorts.
Both Baclayon and Oliveros were charged yesterday with theft. (JST)
