Policeman linked to shabu sales tests positive for use of narcotics

ONE of the two policemen earlier arrested for allegedly selling shabu tested positive for drug use.

The examination results issued by the PNP Crime Laboratory 7 showed that PO1 Aldwin N. Vicada tested positive for drug use. Vicada’s co-accused John Rey M. Catiri, a former policeman, tested negative in a separate laboratory result.

Vicada and Catiri were asked to undergo a drug test after their arrest last July 11 in a buy-bust by the Vice Control Section of the Cebu City Police Office.

Senior Insp. George Ylanan told reporters yesterday the result of the examination will help strengthen the administrative investigation against Vicada, initiated by the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Bureau.

A separate criminal complaint has been filed against Vicada and Catiri before the Cebu City Prosecutors’ Office.

The Police Regional Office (PRO) 7 honored the VCS team with Medalya ng Papuri for the arrest of the two policemen. Apart from the medals, Ylanan was also given P2,000 cash reward, while the eight other operatives received P1,000 each.

The operatives were SPO2 Jaime Otadoy, PO3 Rey Albotra, PO3 Vilma Abayan, PO2 Dale Efe, PO2 Milo Arriola, PO2 Joel Taboada, PO2 Stanley Aldemita and PO1 Raneil Capangpangan.

Both Vicada and Catiri denied engaging in the illegal drug trade. (JST)
