Rubillar loses title bout, right to fight Viloria
JUANITO Rubillar has lost his bid to challenge Fil-Am world champion Brian Viloria after he dropped a hardly contested WBC Interim light-flyweight title fight yesterday.
Rubillar, ranked WBC No.1, lost to No.2 Wandee Singwangcha of Thailand via unanimous decision for the interim title last night in the Mall Shopping Center in Bangkok, Thailand.
The Thai earned the right to challenge Viloria for the WBC Jr. Flyweight title.
Unanimous
After 12 rounds, Wandee won by unanimous decision of judges Brad Vocale of the United States, Takeaki Kanaya of Japan and Jae-Bong Kim of South Korea. Scores were not yet available as of press time.
Rubillar, 29, has been issuing statements to challenge Viloria for the world title since the latter visited the Philippines months back to receive his award for the annual Gabriel “Flash” Elorde Awards night.
Although the Davao native Rubillar fought hard to earn another crack at the world title, the decision went to Wandee.
Rubillar failed in his first bid to win the world title against Jorge Arce in 2004.
With the defeat, Rubillar’s win-loss-draw record dropped to 39-10-7 with 17 knockouts, while Wandee improved to 48-7-1, with 10 KOs. (RCM)
