Capitol awards contracts for generator sets, aircon

After the cancelled bidding last Monday, the Cebu Provincial Government has caught up with schedules. It awarded yesterday the contracts for the installation of generator sets, air-conditioning system, elevators and escalators for the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC).

The consolidated bids and awards committee met yesterday morning to pass resolutions awarding the contracts to those who won in the limited source bidding.

Kilton Motors/Mitsubishi Heavy Industries won the contract for generator sets at P12.6 million. The other bidder was Monarch Equipment, which quoted P16.8 million.

Elevators

For the installation of elevators, Kone Philippines Inc. Elevators won with a contract price of P7.2 million. Other bidders were Otis E & M Co. Phils. Inc. (P8.27 million), Int’l Elevator and Equipment Inc. (P9.11 million), Jardine Schindler (P9.57 million) and Hyco Industrial Sales Corp. (P10 million).

As for the air-conditioning system, Trane Philippines won with its price of P25.5 million, which is P42.8 million cheaper than Condura Carrier Air-conditioning Co.’s bid price of P68.3 million.

With the winning bids, the Capitol was able to save as these were way below the approved cost estimate of the contracts.

The approved cost for the generator set is P16 million while the winning bidder’s price is only P12.6 million. The approved cost for the air-conditioning system is P35 million, or P9.5 million more than the winning bid of P25.5 million.

Winning bid

The elevator contract, on the other hand, had an approved cost of more than P12 million but the winning bid is only P7.2 million.

“I told them in a meeting that this is no time for mediocrity nor greed. This is for Cebu, and I am asking for excellence and the Cebuano spirit to shine through,” Garcia said.

She signed the resolution and the notices of award yesterday.

Also yesterday, the Capitol’s fiscal managers went to Manila to process at the Department of Finance the letter of credit, a financial document that will assure the contractors that the Province can pay for the equipment.

Garcia cancelled the bidding last Monday after seeing that no direct supplier or manufacturer joined the bidding. (JPM)
