Basketball puzzle: How to beat UV

For years, the goal has been the same for all teams in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (Cesafi) –– to beat the formidable University of the Visayas Green Lancers.

The hunger only intensified last year after the University of Cebu ended UV’s five-year unbeaten run with a 75-68 elimination-round win, snapping the Lancers’ 56-game unbeaten streak.

“We will challenge the champion. We will put our best foot forward for the fight,” Cebu Institute of Technology Wildcats head coach Alex dela Torre said.

The rest of the Cesafi team can’t wait to hand the Lancers the same crushing.

“I doubt that UV is still very strong. It may have defeated San Beda in an exhibition match last summer, but exhibition games are different from the real tournament,” said UC head coach Roehl Gomez said.

However, the Lancers are ready for them.

“We are always looking forward to these teams who are thirsting to bring us down,” Cabahug said.

“As what everyone say, ‘lingin gihapon ang bola (the ball is round)’ anyone can still win,” Raul Latonio of University of Southern Philippines said <(
