Warriors issue warning, ‘we are locked and loaded’
Head Coach Jay Ramirez
Assistant Coach Mike Reyes Players Kevin Jake Arriesgado, James Ryan Blanes, Neswen Leigh Cabajar, Loue Capisinio, Bo Dabuco, Earvin Dennis Ferraren, Gene Noel Gallarde, Johmel Igao Paul Norman Joven, Enrico John Llanto,Arletroy Mercader, Ryan Carlo Padayao, Niño Ramirez Ahmann James Tagalog, Vernini Tangarorang
COACH PROFILE. Jay Ramirez is hungry to get his first championship and, like the other coaches, is hoping to upset the Lancers this season.
He was a member of the Philippine Men’s national team from 1984-86, also played for Shell from 1987-91.
Ramirez is probably the only coach with a high-profile assistant, Mike Reyes, who is a multi-titled coach and takes care of the defensive strategy of the team.
STRENGTH. Like UV, the Warriors will live on the defensive improvements introduced by Reyes. Though they may not match UV physically, their skills in the full-court press and outside shooting are their promising strengths. The Warriors are also counting on Niño Ramirez, Enrico Llanto and Vernini Tangarorang to lead in the offense.
WEAKNESS. One word – ceiling. Ramirez admits they lack big men to stop the low-post threats of the other teams.
KEY LOSSES. The Warriors lost Arlo Huwebes (center) and Kailash Sharma (forward), who provided leadership to the team.
FORECAST. USC is on a rebuilding phase this year and is grooming its youthful cagers for next year, still Ramirez warns, “”If we see some holes in everybody’s defense then lock and load.” (JAF)
