Robert Urgello active, popular in school

ROBERT Philip Urgello is well known at the University of Cebu, Banilad.

His friends told police he was very active in school activities and quite popular. Many people recognize him, as he often stands out because of his looks.

Supt. Pablo Labra II told reporters yesterday that they conducted an initial background investigation on him and his family, following his kidnapping yesterday morning.

As far as the family is concerned, Labra said they could not find any enemies who might want to harm Robert.

Robert's friends also said he was friendly and "doing quite well" academically.

However, he is a likely target for a kidnap-for-ransom group.

Robert's family owns Busay Air Charter and their helicopters are often rented out during special events such as the Sinulog parade.

They are also engaged in real estate in Mindanao.

Cebu City Councilor Sylvan "Jack" Jakosalem, a friend of the family, told reporters the family owned two helicopters, a Cessna plane and a 10-seater Hawker Siddley business jet.

Robert is a cousin of the former Cebu vice governor, John Gregory "John-john" Osmeña. His father Bobby is the brother of Osmeña's mother, Lucy.

The family has two houses in Cebu City: an ancestral home on Urgello St. and another in Maria Luisa Village in Banilad.
Robert drives a red Mazda Miata.

In an interview over ABS-CBN, Robert said he pleaded with his captors to let him go because he was very sick.

"Asthmatic man ko. I told them I was scheduled for surgery. Drama-drama lang gud. Naglisod og ginhawa unya wala ko'y dala nga tambal (I told them I was having trouble breathing and didn't have my medicine with me)," he said.

He also said that after his captors told him he was being released, they told him to ask for money from his father.

He claimed the two men approached him and told him to go to the car nearby because some classmates wanted to talk to him.

Apprehensive, Robert asked what their names were.

Because they did not give him a name, Robert began to close his window and car door. He was then forced out of the car and dragged to a gray Honda City parked nearby. (MEA)
