CESAFI begins

THE sixth season of the Cebu School Athletic Foundation, Inc will be ushered in by its trademark festive-mood celebration, with the much-anticipated Palabas, today at the Cebu Coliseum.

Palabas coordinator Vic Kintanar said that the motif will be 'Potpourri, anything goes'.

"The participating schools are given freedom to choose their presentations. There will be contemporary dances, tribal cheers - anything goes. No titles are at stake but it will be a grand showdown of every school," he said.

Nine of the eleven-member schools will be participating in the Palabas, with Don Bosco College and Cebu Eastern College skipping the dancefest., Cesafi commissioner Felix Tiukinhoy revealed.

"Though it is not a competition, people still look forward to the Palabas because it sets the mood of the Cesafi and builds up the rivalry of schools before games start," he added.

Jovial ceremony

Performing in the Palabas are Cebu Doctors University, Cebu Institute of Technology, Southwestern University, University of Cebu, University of San Carlos, University of San Jose-Recoletos, University of Southern Philippines Foundation, University of the Visayas and Velez College

A Eucharistic celebration will be held at noon, which will be concelebrated by Fr. Vicente Uy, SVD, who is also the athletic director of University of San Carlos with USJR school head Rev Anthony Morillo, OAR and Don Bosco College's Fr. Roland Guiao.

Setting the stage for the jovial opening ceremony will be the production numbers from UC Dance Team, gymnastics teams from UV and USPF, followed by the parade of colors.

Welcome remarks will be given by Cesafi 2006 prexy Oscar Tuazon, before Philippine Sports Commission chairman William "Butch" Ramirez, the guest of honor, gives his message.

Induction

The commissioners, its deputies and newly installed officials will be inducted, before the tournament managers of the other events will be introduced.

The Miss Cesafi 2006, which had its pre-judging last Wednesday at the E-Mall, will be presented, before the Palabas.

After the program, the basketball games kick off with CDU and USC women's team battling in the opening game. DBC and USJR college teams take on each other in the second offering. (MCB)
