Caraga’s biz sector to meet

Patin-ay, Prosperidad, Agusan del Sur—The 12th annual meeting of Ca-raga’s business sector is set on July 27 to 28 at the Provincial Government Center Pavilion.

The activity will be hosted by the Agusan del Sur Chamber of Commerce and Industry co-hosted by the Agusan del Sur Provincial Government.

In a press conference with the different officials of the six Chambers of Commerce and Industry in the region with the provincial government officials and the concerned national government agencies, they bared that the theme for the event is “Pushing Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises for Progress in Caraga Region.”

Dialogue

Agusan del Sur Provincial Administrator Jesus Ronquillo, who represented Gov. Adolph Edward Plaza, said the province is already prepared for the holding of the two-day business confab that will bring together leaders in both government and private sectors for effective dialogue in order to resolve issues, identify opportunities, establish partnership and sustain economic gains.

The annual event started in 1995 after the creation of Caraga Region and was pioneered by the Eastern Mindanao Business Council (EMBC), an umbrella organization of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry with a vision of improving growth in all sectors of the newly created administrative region of the country then.

Caraga is among the poorest of the country’s 16 regions.

EMBC Secretary General Val Velasco said the annual business meeting will give opportunity of the different sectors in the region to create new strategies to meet demands and challenges of the times.

Personalities

Conference chairman Joey Gaviola, also a manager of the Development Bank of the Philippines-San Francisco, Agusan del Sur Branch said expected to attend the confab is Department of Agriculture Under-secretary for Operations Jesus Emmanuel Paras after Secretary Panganiban designated him to represent the agency.

Development

Other national officials are expected to attend the two-day meeting, Department of Trade and Industry Provincial Director Lolita Dorado of Agusan del Sur said.

Velasco is hoping that the coming of local and foreign investments will spark development in the region.

Representatives of the P7-billion Philnico Nickel Mining, P500-million Philsaga Mining in Agusan del Sur, the 30,000 hectares of Processing Plant for Eco-Fuel Wood using bamboo extracts as alternative source of fuel, the 10,000 hectares Banana plantation investors are expected to join the conference.
