Onse anyos By Richie Landis Doner Quijano
The ladies and gentlemen of the Cebu Artists Inc. (CAI), a close-knit group of local art practitioners whose membership is by invitation, recently marked its 11th founding anniversary with an exhibition of new collections at the SM art center.
And because it was a special occasion, CAI celebrated it with a feast showing the best of what they had. CAI members made a rare public offering for aesthetes with the proverbial food for the soul that is art; and they prepared a sumptuous dinner with lechon courtesy of CAI president Jun Impas.
Over all, the anniversary show had a well-balanced selection of paintings in the conservative and modern genres. Such a well-rounded showing suggests open-mindedness and the appreciation of both conceptual works and pictorial creations. CAI’s distinguished exhibition roster is composed of Jun Impas, Tito Cuevas, Celso Pepito, Benji Goyha, Mimit Carredo, Dong Secuya, Undo Alcoseba, Karl Roque and yours truly.
Its list includes four women who are all active full-time painters, Sonia Yrastorza, Fe Pepito, Paulina Constancia and Lurline Rodriquez. Eager to discover new and emerging talents, CAI invited painters John Dinglasa, Fr. Doming Besares and Jobril Villaver to add a wider diversity to the exhibit. Like a child full of life and excitement on it’s birthday, CAI is as well most excited to move on and look forward to more prosperous years to come.
