Shot dead, then dumped
A 15-year-old boy, who was believed to be a salvage victim, was found past 11 a.m. yesterday in a grassy area of Mountain View, Sitio Kalubihan, Barangay Talamban, Cebu City.
Anthony Marquez Paulin was found with multiple gunshot wounds in his body and head.
Paulin, a resident in the area, was reported missing since Sunday night.
PO2 Dario Manatad, one of the investigators, said Paulin was shot at close range, particularly in gunshot wound in the face, as indicated by the powder burns.
Manatad said they could not yet conclude whether Paulin was a victim of a vigilante-style killing.
Marian Prieto, a resident in the area, told the responding homicide investigators that she heard at least four successive bursts of gunfire at around 6 p.m. Sunday.
She, however, failed to see who could be responsible in the shooting because it was very dark.
It was submitted to the crime laboratory for examination.
Police suspect that Paulin may have gone with the perpetrators before he was gunned down in the area.
Paulin’s father, Rodrigo, said his son confided to him last Saturday about three men who ran after him. One of the three men was reportedly armed with a handgun.
Chased
Paulin did not know why he was being chased, Rodrigo said.
Rodrigo admitted that Paulin was jailed twice at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center for a robbery case and a shabu-related case.
PO2 Manatad said Paulin was allegedly a member of an Akyat-Bahay Gang.
Senior Insp. Benjamin Lara, PNP 7 medico-legal officer, who checked Paulin’s body, found four gunshot wounds—one in the left part of his jaw, at the back portion of his left ear, one in his back and another in the left leg.
The responding policemen, including the operatives of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group and personnel from the Scene of the Crime Operation, recovered one slug at the crime scene. (JST)
