Pinoy offers free training for future staff

A US-based Leyteńo who has made money on the Internet is planning to put up a virtual assistant contact center in Manila, Cebu and Leyte.

Joel Christoper Reman-daban, who calls himself a “netrepreneur,” was in Cebu City last Wednesday to accept applicants to a scholarship program for a training that he will conduct to get create a pool of workers for his future company.

The training will run for three to six months and the pilot program will begin in January next year.

Remandaban, who ori-ginally comes from Tangub, Leyte, said his future business is set to operate by January 2009. He declined to provide details on its name and investment cost, however.

In a press conference yesterday at the Cebu Grand Hotel, he said he plans to hire about 100 agents for the company’s e-mail support helpdesk.

He said these agents, through training, will become virtual assistants and successful “netrepreneurs,” or people who are involved in Internet-based businesses, in the future.

Virtual assistants, according to Remandaban does what most secretaries do.

“They write PR (press releases), do some researches for the clients,” he said.

Unlike most call centers, these agents correspond with foreign clients through e-mail and chat.

“It’s not a stressful job since there are no screaming customers, no needs to reply real time, but at the same time you get paid more than the average,” Remandaban told Sun.Star Cebu.

He said his future company will pay a starting salary of about P10,000 to P15,000 per month.

“I want to hire Filipinos because our talents can compete with those of the Americans since we have an Americanized accent and we are known to be friendly and courteous,” said Remandaban.

Remandaban said he earned millions of dollars in the United States through Internet marketing and publishing.

He said he believes that the rise of contact centers in the next 10 years will help solve the country’s problem of unemployment and prevent Filipinos from leaving the Philippines for better paying overseas jobs.

More Filipinos can also find employment in contact centers because “those who are rejected by call centers can apply since the skills needed are less.”

Remandaban said he sees netrepreneurship as a potential business for Filipinos, but added that there is lack of awareness on its potentials, products and application.

Remandaban co-authored the book, “Mining Online Gold With An Offline Shovel: How To Build A Massive Online Mailing List by Mastering Offline Promotion.” (MMM)
