Philips Healthcare arranges aid program for Filipinos

Filipino patients now have access to sophisticated and highly specialized medical equipment with the Oontwikkelings Relevante Export Transacties program, the official development aid program arranged by Philips Medical Systems between the Dutch government and the Department of Health (DOH).

This program aims to help address the unequal access to healthcare, especially among Filipinos in the far flung areas.

The Dutch government subsidized the total investment of EUR 22.5 million with 35 percent grant element for the procurement of extensive supplies and related services for the development of specialty heart-lung-kidney centers under DOH’s Health Sector Reform Agenda.

The equipment being installed by Philips include those for non-invasive procedures, diagnostic and imaging, operating theatre, recovery areas as well as third-party items for haemodialysis and endoscopy.

The installation of a Philips Brilliance 40-slice CT scan at the PHC last August marked the first phase of the project, and was soon followed with the installation of the most advanced gamma camera systems this year.

PHC will also receive a cardiovascular bi-plane system with flat panel technology, making it the country’s first hospital to have this equipment.

For completion in August this year is the installation of the single-plane versions of the same equipment at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center and Davao Medical Center. The two other hospitals participating in the project are the Bicol Regional and Training Hospital and the Northern Mindanao Medical Center.

“We are happy that this partnership is moving forward to its desired state which is to provide the five major government hospitals in the country with superior experience that comes with every Philips product and technology,” Med Mateo, Philips Philippines president and chief executive officer said.
