Serna: Lost and found By Roger Serna Sounds and images
First, the sad story. Just to get it off my chest so we can proceed smoothly with the nicer ones. Right?
I’m requesting my friends out there whose numbers were in my phonebook to please give me your cellphone numbers through landline number 416-6020. The reason? For me to be able to reconstruct and rebuild my phonebook from scratch.
My Nokia 6230i cellphone was stolen while I was riding on a PUJ with route number 12L last weekend on the way to the Cebu Business Park. It could be my negligence, or it could simply be just bad luck. Whatever.

That’s still 75% of the story (he-he, at least my mood’s brightening up). To give myself some consolation and to help lift my spirits, I went through the motions of having the incident entered into the Fuente Osmeña Police blotter, reporting it to the National Telecommunications Commission to have the phone blocked, and to Globe Telecom to have the SIM blocked.
Wandering aimlessly, the next thing I knew I was inside JY Square Mall and asking for the location of Coach Pacquiao Fitness and Wellness Center. Maybe my subconscious was telling me that exercising was a way to get out of the state of depression.
Fortunately, Alix Pacquiao was in his office and the next thing I knew (again!) I had already signed up to start working out within the week. The mere thought of working out in a new environment has helped lift my spirits.
My guardian angel must have been doing his best. Thanks.

The Provincial Capitol grounds will once again be alive and festive starting Monday as the Province celebrates its 437th Founding Anniversary with a weeklong celebration.
As in past celebrations, a trade fair and exhibit, a photo exhibit, a fashion show of probable uniforms for next year, a sports competition consisting of badminton, table tennis and chess, a production number contest and the Governor’s Night are among the highlights of the affair.
Some nightly activities are also being worked out. So if you need some entertainment and other wholesome fun (and perhaps, some wise buys here and there), why not drop by the Capitol when you have enough time (and money too)?

Poompong Hiranpruck may not be a familiar name to us but in Thailand, he’s a familiar name among television watchers and film buffs as he is an actor. Here in the Philippines, specifically at the University of San Carlos (Talamban), where he finished a course some years back, he is simply called Jim.
He’s the younger brother of former-ramp-model-turned-restaurateur Anthony Ballreich, the debonair manager of the Krua Thai restaurants.
Three weeks ago, Jim played host (along with Mom Carol and his Thai girlfriend) to some friends in the media at the recently opened Hai Phong Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine at the Crossroads, which he co-manages.
Amid funny anecdotes dished out one after the other by some colleagues, we feasted on mouthwatering Vietnamese food and some selected Thai favorites. We ended up forgetting our diets and illusions of getting those washboard abs and other eye-catching physical attributes.
Finally, we went home a little heavier, but happier nonetheless. Who cares?
*** A relative in Sibonga tipped me that Sheryn Regis was scheduled to have a show in Sibonga last Saturday. A few checks and arrangements here and there and off I went to the southern town.
Sheryn had the Age of Play band for front-act and backup with Earl Echevarri playing the first keyboards. Sheryn immediately ‘connected’ with the audience by delivering her spiels in Cebuano.
She also went down the stage to get closer to the audience. Young pupils of the Golden Brains Development School (as young as five years old or even younger) were seated near the stage and which Sheryn joked as being her playmates and belonging to their age bracket with her petite size.
One of the kids named Pauline sang two numbers with Sheryn. At the tender age of five, Pauline already displays a lot of promise as a singer. She can hit the right note and she knows nothing about stage fright.
What a kid! She could have stolen the limelight away had she been allowed to sing more numbers.
Sheryn’s repertoire consisted of songs from her albums and teleseries theme songs which she herself recorded. She also gave in to requests including mimicking other artists like Zsa Zsa Padilla, Sarah Geronimo and Rachel Ann Go.
Would you believe she even impersonated fellow Star In A Million product Christian Bautista, complete with gestures and mannerisms to the audience’s delight? One number which she did impromptu due to a request and which displayed her other talents was the song popularized by the Pussycat Dolls entitled Don’t Cha.
Sheryn did not only sing it with gusto, she also displayed her terpsichorean skills. Atta girl! She also showed her support to budding talent by sharing the limelight with two other guests, one of which is a Philippine Idol contestant.
Oh, the Age of Play male vocalist is also in the Philippine Idol search. Good luck, guys!
Tonight, Sheryn will be at the Casino Parañaque for a major concert featuring Broadway hits. She’s also busy preparing her third album which will contain two of her own compositions.
If negotiations push through, she might even share the stage with Christian Bautista in the northern town of Daanbantayan towards the end of next month. Just keep posted.
