Flu downs Gloria

A sick President Arroyo cancelled all her appointments yesterday and today, including her meetings with Pastor Rick Warren and the hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas led by its Filipino-American member Allen Pineda Lindo, more popularly known as Apl.de.ap.

Arroyo was taken to the St. Luke’s Medical Center at 5 p.m. yesterday, said Presidential Management Staff head Arthur Yap.

Arroyo, who was suffering from flu, underwent some series of tests but it was not clear if she would stay overnight as of press time.

The official medical bulletin isssued by Arroyo’s doctors said the President was admitted “due to fever, runny nose, sore throat, dry cough and body ache.”

Presidential spokesman Ignacio Bunye said Arroyo started feeling ill late Wednesday after leading officials in welcoming home a group of Filipino workers who fled from Lebanon.

Docs’ advice

Sources said the President was taken to the hospital on the advice of her physicians.

No member of the First Family or Malacañang officials was with the President when she went to the hospital.

Bunye said there is nothing to worry about Arroyo’s conditions as it is just an ordinary flu similar to what other people get, especially with the present weather conditions.

This is the second time that Arroyo was taken ill this year, the last one led to her confinement at the St. Luke’s Medical Center from June 22 to 24 after being diagnosed with acute infectious diarrhea. (Sunnex)
