Arroyo getting better but stays in hospital
President Arroyo will remain in St. Luke’s Medical Center in Quezon City at least until weekend to ensure that she gets enough bed rest to fully recover from flu and ensure that she will not do any work or even receive any callers or visitors.
The President’s doctors, including St. Luke’s Medical Center director Joven Cuanang, main attending physician Juliet Gopez-Cervantes and pulmo-nologist Ruth Divinagracia, said in a medical bulletin that Arroyo is already strong and her fever has gone down.
“She needs more rest just like any other individual who suffers from flu. Visitors are still not allowed,” stated the medical bulletin that was signed by the three doctors.
Cuanang said they are considering releasing Arroyo today “but this will all depend on how she fares today (Friday).”
He said they want to ensure that when Arroyo returns to Malacañang, she is already “well rested and ready to go ahead and fulfill her duties as our President.”
Presidential Management Staff (PMS) head Arthur Yap said the President’s stay may extend until Sunday or even Monday.
Presidential son, Pampanga Rep. Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo said if it were up to him, he wants his mother to remain in the hospital for the weekend.
Aside from the congressman, all the members of the First Family visited and stayed with Arroyo until late Thursday night.
Yap said the First family even took away Arroyo’s cell phone to ensure that she does not receive any calls and is forced to rest.
However, the laptop that Arroyo had during her confinement from June 22 to 24 at the same hospital due to acute infectious diarrhea is still with her.
“As a matter of course laging nandun iyung mga equipment (she has the equipment with her always), laging nakatabi iyun (it’s beside her always) but she’s not using it. She’s a very good patient, she’s resting,” Yap said.
Yap said Arroyo, when he met her yesterday morning, immediately asked about the status of the stock market, which he said, is understandable since the President closely monitors the trading even before she was hospitalized.
He said Arroyo’s visitors were also limited to the members of the First Family, him and Presidential chief of staff Michael Defensor. He said members of the Cabinet are not allowed to visit or stay long in the hospital to see the President.
Yap assures that Arroyo remains in full control and continues to give official instructions, including sending Defensor to attend on her behalf the anniversary of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita to attend the anniversary of a national daily. (Sunnex)
