Scbhaba nips Cecaba, 91-84
The San Carlos Boys High Alumni Basketball Association (Scbhaba)-M. Lhuillier prevailed over the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) All-Stars, 91-84, to emerge as the elimination round topnotcher in the 2006 Executives Cup basketball tournament at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
In the main game, Team Barkada escaped with an 81-79 victory over Springdale PTA-Pepsi Max to advance into the playoffs as second seed with an 8-2 win-loss card.
Paul Abais, Jeffrey Diaz and Dindo Sausa rose to the challenge by combining for 53 points, 25 rebounds and 10 assists as Scbhaba clinched the top spot going into the quarterfinal round with only one setback in 10 games.
Dean Wong added 14 points and six caroms for Scbhaba, which used a 24-7 run to gain a double-digit lead, 63-53, entering the final 10-minute mark of the contest. Joel Chan fired a season-best 31 points on top of 12 rebounds and four assists, while Stephen Tan added 15 markers for Cecaba All-Stars, who fainished the classification round as fourth seed with a 7-3 slate.
