Land Bank honors outstanding cooperatives and entrepreneurs

THE Land Bank of the Philippines will honor the country’s outstanding cooperatives and small and medium entrepreneurs in its annual Gawad sa Pinakatanging Kooperatiba (Gawad PITAK) and Gawad Entrepreneur, respectively, in Malacañang to coincide with Landbank’s 43rd year anniversary this August.

President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo has been invited to lead the awarding ceremonies, along with finance secretary and Landbank chairman Gary B. Teves and Landbank acting president and chief executive officer Gilda E. Pico.

Through the Gawad PITAK, Landbank recognizes top-performing cooperatives across the country, showing their role in creating jobs and improving the local economy. Gawad PITAK also helps competing cooperatives comply with the strictest laws set forth by the governing bodies of cooperatives. It opens more windows for cooperatives to explore the best ways of managing their respective organizations.

“The Gawad PITAK, now on its 16th year, is regarded as a parameter for a highly effective cooperative. Most coops consider winning the Gawad PITAK title as getting an equivalent certification from the International Standards Organization,” Pico explained.

Prizes as much as P500,000 (in asset form) are at stake during in this much-coveted award which has categories for agri and non-agri cooperatives. In addition to the main awards and special awards, the Guinintuang Gawad PITAK is the highest recognition for both agri based and non-agri based cooperatives who are already hall of fame awardees.

They compete for higher honors through their active business relationship with Landbank in a three-year rating period. Recipients take home a prize of P1 million in fixed assets.

Meanwhile, the Gawad Entrepreneur recognizes the exemplary performance and significant achievements of SMEs particularly in harnessing economic development in the communities where they operate.

It also seeks to provide SMEs with incentives to further improve their operations to be at par with international standards.
